Location. The most successful bed and breakfasts are those that are convenient to airports, historic parts of town, or other tourist attractions. That’s because there are two types of guests who tend to frequent B&B’s: business travelers who are tired of sterile hotel rooms, and families looking for a unique experience. That’s not to say that you can’t develop a successful B&B if your home isn’t located in the perfect spot, but you might have to work harder to make it a success if it isn’t.
The audiobook industry is booming, yet only 5% of books ever get made into audio format. If you’ve got a background in acting, or if people have said you’ve got a voice made for the radio, you can make extra money recording audio versions of independent and popular books. Sites like ACX connect authors with audiobook performers. So, whether you’re an author looking for more ways to sell your book, or an actor/voice actor looking to make some extra income, you can sell your services online.

Although some teachers simply enjoy trying out other industries, TSTA spokesman Clay Robison says “we believe the main reason they do this is strictly because they’re not paid enough.” (Some teachers also encounter issues with their pay schedules: Because of the school calendar, they usually have to choose whether to receive full paychecks for the nine months that they work or smaller ones spread out over 12 months.)
I mentioned an idea above to create an online store but you could also just declutter your house and sell things you no longer use (CDs, DVDs, kitchen appliances, etc.). There is a platform that makes this really easy, it's called Decluttr. You download their app and scan the item and Declutter will tell you the price at which to sell. Check out Decluttr (or for more information, read our Decluttr review!) Listing items on eBay is of course another option, sign up by going to www.eBay.com.

Hello Philip–good list but  most of the activities are so cliche and yet more creativity could be better employed here…this would make me work more hours for a little more pay and still keep me in the debt circle for so long. it would require me to worker harder so that i can make more money and yet am at the point where i want my money make more money with me getting less actively/ physically involved. Some call it ‘Working Smart’ unlike traditional options that have often helped many to stay afloat without helping them soar to financial growth and prosperity. Thanks though

The key is to make the class sound unique and irresistible. Don’t just teach a cooking class; come up with specialty cooking classes. You might teach a class on how to make artesian breads, or cinnamon rolls that rival Cinnabon. The possibilities are endless, and if you consistently offer educational and fun classes, you’ll have people signing up over and over again.

GlassDoor estimates that teachers at Tutor earn $9 to $14 an hour. “Depending on the subject mix and number of hours you work, you could make between a few hundred to a few thousand dollars per month,” Farrar says. Chegg’s rates start at $20 per hour, estimating that tutors can make up to $1,000 a month. WyzAnt’s rates run $24 to $36 per hour, according to GlassDoor.
Want to go beyond teaching and actually shape the curriculum your students will learn from? If so, a curriculum designer might be the perfect summer job for you. Teachers are prime candidates for curriculum design positions. In fact, many jobs require that the candidate have a certain number of years of teaching experience along with education to match (a master’s degree in         education is usually preferred).
Another side gig for teachers in the summer is to rent, deliver and set up baby gear for traveling families. It’s fun and easy work and you get to make a difference in a family’s vacation experience. Many of us do this through Babierge which is a platform that connects people renting out gear to families seeking gear at their vacation destination. It takes about two weeks to get set up on the platform. Once you go live it sometimes takes only a few hours to get your first order. We are a collaborative community. We share information, tips and great sales on baby gear in a private Facebook community. I rent gear in the San Francisco East Bay. Learn more at:
If you have a college degree or you're working on getting one, you may qualify to work as an online tutor. Typically, online tutors work for internet-based companies that offer help within a variety of subject areas to students of all ages. However, some websites simply offer ways for established tutors to connect to students online (and then take a cut of the fees you charge). Hours are flexible, and teaching experience may or may not be required. Do some research to figure out which online tutoring jobs might be a good fit for you.
If you’ve got a way with words and expertise in a niche, there are plenty of sites that will pay for articles and content you write. Think of the sites you read regularly. What can you contribute to them that would be interesting? Research your niche and then look for ways to pitch articles. Many sites will simply have a submission or contact link in the footer. To get started, check out my full guide to becoming a freelance writer on the side and then submit your articles to places like Listverse, TopTenz, A List Apart, International Living, FundsforWriters, and Textbroker.
If you are a creative type, then you could make money online by designing and selling crafty products on Etsy. Etsy sells a range of beautiful and original items from independent suppliers. Categories range from jewelry, clothes, and accessories, to art, collectibles, and vintage. So if you have some stunning crafty creations, Etsy is the perfect platform from which to sell from.
Is there a product or service that you are particularly enthusiastic about? If you are, you may be able to develop a website that is built around selling it. You don’t have to be the actual provider of the product or service either. There are many businesses that offer these products and will allow you to sell them on an affiliate basis. For example, you may be able to sell a product on your website for a commission of 20% or 30% of the sale price.
Do you live near a thriving metropolis, vacation destination, or popular tourist attraction? Try renting out your cabin in the mountains or the extra room in your home to travelers from across the globe. Apps, such as Airbnb, have a massive following and simplify the process of renting and booking accommodations. Through Airbrb, hosts can set their own prices, as well. Many put this extra income toward home expenses by simply renting their space for a few nights a month.
In my (unpopular) opinion, getting a raise is harder than getting a promotion. Think about it from your boss’s perspective, would you rather a) pay more money for the same service, or b) pay more money for additional responsibilities. Alas, if you feel you’re overdue a raise, check out Dr. Randall Hansen’s article on Getting the Raise You Deserve. There are some really useful strategies there.
Profit from you photos. If you’re skilled with a camera, you can turn your photos into cash by selling them to stock image sites, such as Shutterstock.com. If the photos you submit are accepted, they can be downloaded by Shutterstock’s subscribers and you can earn anywhere from 25 cents to $120 per image download. Other sites that accept photos from contributors include iStock, Dreamstime and Sqeeqee.
Or, if you’d prefer more something more editorial and less salesy, you can find that, too. Media companies (including Entrepreneur) offer digital writing and editing positions for the digital publication, which essentially can be accomplished from anywhere in the world -- as long as you have an internet connection. In fact, we have some writers at Entrepreneur who work from Paris or their home offices instead of the office in New York City.
Writing an eBook and selling it on your blog can be a great money maker. Your eBook should be directly relevant to your blog’s content so you can sell your book to your existing audience. Creating a recipe eBook for a food blog or an eBook full of training plans to complement your fitness site are just a couple of examples that have the potential to sell.

number one way to make money online

Infographics are currently an extremely popular type of media. An infographic showing information or data in an interesting and fun way can help engage an audience and generate numerous likes and shares. As infographics take more time to create than just simply uploading an image, busy website owners are prepared to pay for custom infographics. And don’t worry, an infographic can be created using simple design software such a Canva. So extensive graphic design skills are not necessary, just a creative eye.

Find items that you know are selling below their full value (either online or through a deal website like SlickDeals.net), discount stores (Marshalls, Ross, etc.) buy them and sell them for more on eBay or Amazon. Once you find your product niche you can set up a system. Don't read over that too quickly. You need to find a particular product or niche to really make this work. Otherwise, you're met with different shipping costs, always trying to figure out new margins, etc. Don't try to be everything to everybody. Try to be good in one particular. Maybe it's a product you're passionate about such as selling trucker hats.  🙂 Click here for more on this idea.
Sarah Li Cain works as a second grade teacher at Shenzhen American International School in Shenzhen, China, and runs the site High Fiving Dollars – but she spends her summers visiting friends and family in the U.S. and Canada. Still wanting to earn extra income during her downtime, Cain leverages technology to tutor students in China while she travels North America. It didn't take much for her online tutoring job to take off.
One of the most effective and efficient side hustles are the ones that generate passive income. By creating and selling online courses, you are able to spend a few hours creating a course and then sit back and watch the money come to you as people enroll. Figure out an area you have experience with, and go from there. If you spent 20 years as a financial adviser, you could easily create a course about investing in stocks. Other course ideas include teaching yoga for beginners, how to negotiate higher salaries, and cake decorating.
One factor that you must be aware of though is that Care.com is a peer-to-peer arrangement. That means that you will be in direct competition with other pet sitters in your area. You must price your services competitively in order to get business. Once you begin to develop a list of regular clients, you will be in a better position to raise your rates. This will be particularly true as you get referrals from those customers.

Want to travel and give back to a community this summer? Look into the AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate program. It’s designed to allow participants to join an existing AmeriCorps project for 8–10 weeks. You’ll receive a living allowance throughout the season and a stipend or Education Award upon completion. The Education Award can be used to repay qualifying student loans or toward course costs at eligible institutions.
Outsourcing is the new and dominant wave of the business world. As businesses shed employees, they increasingly turn to independent contractors to supply what in-house staff used to do. One of the ways they do this is through virtual assistants. These are people who provide certain tasks online. Businesses can use virtual assistants as much or as little as they need to. If you can make yourself available to multiple businesses, you might have plenty of work without ever leaving your house.
For anyone who would rather focus on their product, marketing, and sales than on maintaining the website for their online store, this kind of ecommerce service is invaluable. You get the beauty and functionality of a website designed by a professional web developer without having to shell out the money for one. Not to mention the fact that you will not have to spend time or money troubleshooting bugs in your website when you use the well-designed turn-keys offered by BigCommerce.
Research individual companies in your desired niche: If possible, it’s always better to become an affiliate directly with a company (if they have an internal affiliate program), as no one else will be dipping into your commission rate. This is the preferred route for most of the prominent affiliate marketers, including Pat Flynn. Unfortunately, it’s also the most work, as you’ll have to do the research yourself to see who offers programs (they’re usually listed in the website footer).
If my piece of content is so unique and valuable around hiking backpack recommendations, that other reputable outdoor websites are willing to link to it and build the page’s authority, then I’d have a very real opportunity to rank high in organic search for these search terms (meaning, my page will come up first when someone searches for hiking backpacks).
This is slightly different than eBay Arbitrage. Find a distributor that will sell to you at their discounted prices. List these items online. Buy and ship to your heart's content. Basically, you become a reseller of computers and other hardware. Another thought here is to sell computer parts. Can you find a part that seems to be in demand? If you can supply the demand, you may just have yourself a part-time business.
Once you’ve gathered a list, put together a template outreach email (as you’ll be doing this over and over) that’s short and clear with expectations. Tell your potential interviewee who you are, what your podcast is about, and what you’re asking of them. Do a few test interviews with friends and family to make sure everything is being recorded at the quality you want and then book your first episode.
If you have a college degree and the skills to tutor students online in math, science, English or social studies, this job may fit you perfectly. Go toTutor.com—tutors who work for the company and have passed their probationary period earn $10 to $14 an hour. According to Durst, "Skype and other web interface tools are bringing English language instructors face-to-face with students from around the world." Tryispeakuspeak.com,openenglish.com to get started.
For non-tech people (myself included), web design can cause a lot of stress. And stress means opportunity. If you have a knack for web design or web development, you should definitely be capitalizing on it. And since it’s such a foreign concept for many, it can be a really lucrative side hustle. You can find all sorts of gigs on Upwork. Also, you need to read this article: How to Make $5,000+ a Month Building Websites Part-Time
Use your blog to share hobbies, thoughts, and passions with others and use your blog to make real connections with people. The mechanics are straightforward, and you'll be able to profit with your blog via online advertising (e.g. Google Adwords), affiliate marketing (see below), and subscriber-based lists to produce a steady stream of income. There are many ways to make money with a blog.
Video is growing like crazy. And more and more people are looking for professional help cutting their raw footage into viral-worthy content. If you have the right software and a bit of skill, you can easily make money online as a video editor. Check out these article of Fstoppers on how to become an online video editor and then look for relevant jobs on Mandy.com, Creative Cow Job Search, or ProductionHub.

The prep work before you open up shop is more time-consuming. You need merchandise to sell, photos and descriptions to post, a name for your shop and a business plan to help you succeed. Once that’s done, you’ll still need to find customers. Depending on what you’re selling, that could take weeks, which is why you should expect the overall time for this gig to be slow.
A large subset of our society is earning a full-time income by selling items on Craigslist and Ebay. You can do this by selling your own items, or you can help sell items for other people and take a small commission. Selling on Ebay offers more friction than Craigslist and you'll need to establish solid reviews before you can begin to move high-ticket items.
Be a mommy (or daddy) blogger. If you haven’t used your free time between changing diapers, washing clothes and shuttling kids around to hop on the blog bandwagon, it’s worth considering this potential source of income. And just because you’re a parent doesn’t mean you have to write about parenting issues. In fact, given that there already are so many blogs about life as a mom (or dad), consider writing about another topic about which you are passionate. The more original, entertaining and informative you are, the more likely you’ll gain followers – and you need an online following to make money.
Do you see all of those articles, tutorials and guides all over the Internet? Somebody wrote every one of them! If you have decent writing ability (no, you don’t need a journalism degree!), and knowledge in a few specific topic areas, you can be one of those writers. It’s an opportunity to make money online and without ever leaving your home. It’s also the kind of venture that can start out as a small side business, but grow into a full-time career.
Although this would require you to occasionally leave the house, freelance photographers can make a generous side income by taking family portraits, engagement photos, or baby pictures. In addition, bloggers continuously hunt for click-worthy stock photos to accompany their posts. If you have the talent, microstock sites, such as istockphoto.com and shutterstock.com, make it easy to get started selling attractive photos online. However, this is not the time or place for artsy iPhone photos. Those looking to make money off this hustle will need to purchase a high-quality digital camera.
No matter what method you end up using to generate an income on the web, you need to adjust your mindset to help empower you rather than discourage you. The truth? Making money online can be fraught with avoidable pitfalls. There's no shortage to the rah-rah cheers of internet marketers looking to find ways to ensure they part you from your hard-earned cash. The trick? Cancel the noise and get to the real meat and potatoes, so to speak.
Again, if your blog has a large reader base, then businesses may be interested in paying you to review their services or products. Not only will you get a free trial using whatever these businesses are selling, you will also get a fee for writing them a review and posting it to your site. Paid reviews (and other paid and sponsored content) can be big money, so advertise this service on your contact page to generate business.
Tweeting for money isn’t just for Kim Kardashian and her friends anymore (though she reportedly brings in about $200,000 for her Instagram posts). If you have enough followers, you can make money tweeting and posting about products you like. Sites, such as MyLikes and LikeItToKnowIt, are popular but will only entertain accounts with at least a few thousand followers.
If you have a spare vehicle that just sits in your garage for long stretches of time, you might find a car rental service like Turo to be a great way to make extra money. Let’s say your car’s market value is $10,000. If you rent out your car for just 10 days a month, Turo says you could make around $3,000 a year!(5) And don’t worry—the company covers your vehicle with $1 million of liability insurance as well as theft and damage coverage.

Display. Just as in any retail operation, the way you display your wares will greatly impact your sales. Produce should be placed underneath a cover to protect it from the sun, but be sure to allow at least seven feet of head room. Display your prices prominently, and clearly identify the things that make your product special. Personalize your stand with signs to inform your customers.
Drop shipping is another great ‘hands-off’ way to sell products. Firstly you will need to find businesses that sell products in your niche that offer a drop shipping service. Then you will need to create a website promoting and selling the products. When you make a sale, you take the payment on your site and then the manufacturer ships the goods to the buyer. The profit comes from charging a higher rate than the manufacturer, and if you are selling a high number of products this can quickly add up to a healthy revenue.
VIPKID provides an international learning experience to Chinese children. You could provide one-on-one full-immersion language and content classes based on the US Common Core State Standards. Best of all, it’s a part-time opportunity that you can do from home, while feeling great that you’re using your teaching skills to help children learn English and thrive. Here’s our article explaining how VIPKID works.

SIG works to provide high-quality educational and social opportunities for academically gifted and talented students. Their three-week summer sessions are offered at major universities around the country, and they hire instructors in STEM, humanities, and visual/performing arts. They hire on a rolling basis for open positions, so the sooner you apply, the better.

Then summer comes, and you get a well-deserved break! But after the first week or so of vacation, you might feel some of your energy returning. You might also start to wonder if your bank account could use a little extra padding—and honestly, free time does get a little boring after a certain point. So what can a teacher do to earn a little extra money and stay busy during the summer months?
For people like Ben Sullens, a raise may help, but he still says he would have trouble making ends meet. The Phoenix-based special education instructor got out May 25, took a gig administering the SAT June 2 and has been driving for ridesharing service Lyft. He’s also looking into joining city food delivery service DoorDash, which pays employees $1 an order plus 100% of tip and a boost based on factors like how far away the restaurant is and how complicated the order is.

If you want to help shape products in their early stages, joining an online focus group or answering survey questions is a great way to make extra money online. They don’t pay as much as some of the other options we’ve highlighted, but you can join groups on sites like Survey Junkie, Swagbucks, and IPSOS that pay out through Amazon gift cards, check, or PayPal. You’ll be asked to provide a bit of information about your demographics (age, location, etc…), but after that you can get going making money through surveys.
